Beginning on the 30th of May and ending on the third of June, Sally Park (G11) hosted a worldwide event, known as “Random Acts of Kindness Week”. This entire week is fundamentally meant to bring more generosity into the community and create a positive atmosphere between people involved in the area. An act of kindness can actually decrease stress, promote happiness, lower blood pressure, release endorphins, and inspire more goodwill. These benefits inspired Sally to construct this five day long event, as she mentioned she wanted to “generate a homely feeling in CDS.”
For each day of the week, there was a readily prepared activity for the students and teachers to actively participate in during the ten minute house period that we were given everyday. Monday was a day of showing thanks to our surroundings that we appreciate, by posting sticky notes on our peers’ and teachers’ belongings. Tuesday was a day of boosting motivation in people, by handing a note card with words of inspiration, one by one, to our neighbours. Wednesday was a day of complimenting our high school director, Mr. Harrison, by giving him our gratitude, through the usage of an excel spreadsheet. Thursday was a day of showing house spirit by taking a group selfie with words of kindness. Friday was a day of presenting our knowledge about this particular week by answering trivia questions, and enjoying a pizza party, only for the winner of the selfie contest.
For every single day, the teachers put much enthusiasm and encouragement in the students, which allowed them to properly perform the activities in a gentle manner. The teachers deserve a round of applause for all their hard work and effort throughout the event. “Random Acts of Kindness Week” was a wonderful success this year. We hope to see this marvelous spread of thoughtfulness once again next year in CDS, and have it be just as lovely as it was this year.
