Video games. They have been around for quite a while. But what happens when one of these so-called technologies encompasses society's youth? Does this result in the “backwardness of the human mind” that many ignorant people assume is what happens when millions upon millions of people everywhere from L.A. to Seoul decide to escape from the “righteousness” of real life? Do people become morally incompetent? Yet those very same people decide to waste their time by watching TV shows and sitting around doing nothing at all except tapping away at a little glass screen thinking that they actually make an impact on society by doing something that is quite literally useless and unnecessary for the progression of the human race’s development as a whole. Well, I say video games are a way for people to have a little more fun. Simple. Video games have genres that range from mind-boggling puzzles to edgy horror to action-packed shooters, online with friends or randoms (as gamers call them) or offline with just yourself to awe at the smallest things, like any other form of entertainment. Still, why do some people look down on the video gaming community as if it was a demon cult or some kind of heretic group of zealots? That’s a question people have different opinions on and I’ll leave it at that.
In this opinion article I will discuss why some people have this asinine stigma towards video gaming and why video games aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. When the conservatives of the world want the acting president of the United States of America to not appoint a liberal Supreme Court justice when there are now an even number of them, then people know something’s wrong and rant on as if this will actually make a ground-breaking change in human history for hundreds of years. However, people always take video games, a small piece of life, for granted. Those certain people believe that gamers are obese, lazy, uneducated, lacking standard morals, and lastly wasting time. There is no other reason for certain people to be biased against gaming and if there were they would only be variations of the aforementioned qualities that the ignorant masses assume to be the core of gamers which some even less people apply to themselves.
Of course there are people who support video gaming and play them as well, such as me. But I digress. Some people believe that video gaming is degeneracy in its purest form. A sign of humanity’s greatest faults when in reality these digital amalgamations are just the natural progression of the human race and playing these for whatever reason is because of individual personality. At a certain point in time video games were simple and were considered childlike or easy, but when the gaming industry grows up and gets older, so do the players that it caters towards and a variety of different people all come to share the same thing at the end of the day, the feeling of being able to do something in order to escape the harsh and bitter reality of life even if they don’t realize it and the people on the outside can have their lives, for they are humans as well, yet they fail to move on and consider gamers as much wiser and more intelligent than what they originally thought. As a child I have seen the amazing progression of video games from the early 2000’s to right now in February of the year 2016. I was not present for the Nintendo age of gaming or the beginning of actual online multiplayer games, but I have seen just a small fraction of a piece of the video gaming community and it has brought with it years of experience that do not even remotely show a sign of how bad it is and only of how it has progressed through years of hard work which has now paid off so that video games in general can be more accepted. Their variety being one thing. But that’s only my opinion and mine alone. Think about what yours is.
