Recently, E-sports has been seeing a lot of boons. It’s almost as if people are seeing E- sports as an actual sport that is no different from other sports such as basketball or soccer. E- sport is a form of sports that includes electronic systems. Arguably, one of the most famous and hot E-sports right now is League of Legends. Also known as LOL, League of Legends is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena-type video game developed by Riot Games. It’s been seeing much resurgence internationally and there are numerous competitions centered around this game. On top of that, there are many professional LOL teams around the world. The most recent event that Riot held was Midseason Invitational. Also known as MSI, top ranking teams around the world were invited to play against each other.
The six teams from around the world were invited to play in MSI, held in Shanghai, China. The teams were selected based on how they performed in their respective regions. The teams came from many different places such as China, Europe, North America, South Korea, and so on. MSI are basically divided into two sections. The first is the Group Stage, where six teams play against each other in order to select four teams that will advance to next stage. The second section is the Bracket Stage, which include Semifinals and Finals. Four selected teams compete against each other to win the championship title. The winner for MSI 2016 was SK Telecom T1 from South Korea (SKT), with second place being Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) from North America.
There were many people who argued that E-sports is not an actual sport but a mere computer game, but at this rate, it is very likely that E-sports will settle as an actual proper sport.
