Just three days after the first day of the new school year at CDS, a relatively large number of students, ranging from grade 10 to 12, expressed their willingness to take the responsibility of being part of the student council. After listening to various engaging student council campaign speeches, the students of CDS voted for those whom they recognized as the most responsible to take the limited offices of the student council.
All high school students of CDS placed their votes and the results were very close; however, Sarah Lee, from grade 12, won the Presidential race by a large margin. Alongside with her, the new Vice President, Junwoo Lee, the Treasurer, Yun Sang Jeon, and the Secretary, Heumil Wang, have taken the offices for this school year's student council.
The student council so far has already taken an action towards improving the school life at CDS. From this school year onwards, the closure of the school store has created a great concern and an inconvenience for those, especially for dorm students, of whom were wishing to purchase books, uniform, foods, and drinks from the school. As the student council has promised, they situated two vending machines in one corner of the cafeteria, allowing the access to purchase drinks for those desiring to do so. In addition to this, the student council is constantly attempting to reduce the number of students cutting in lunch lines, since there has been an on-going grievances from the students on this matter. The most current event led by the student council was the Dress Down Day on Friday, 18th of September. The student council has conducted this as an optional event for high school students to further gain the financial support for their upcoming plans and events.
The 2015-16 student council has proposed the main goal for this year as supporting CDS to be a fun and happy place to study at. This is only the first term of the school year and surely the student council has an enormous amount of work to complete and goals to achieve. Seeing the improvements they had made so far, it is not surprising to expect the student council to place a positive influence on the school life of CDS, and thus successfully accomplishing their main goal.
